File Tools

File tools that work without uploading anything: verify downloads with MD5 and SHA-256 checksums, find out what a file really is from its signature, and convert data between CSV and JSON.

Working with files safely

The File Checksum Calculator confirms that a download is complete and unchanged by comparing its MD5 or SHA-256 hash with the value the publisher lists. The File Type Checker reads a file’s signature to reveal its real format, warning you about wrong or disguised extensions.

CSV to JSON and JSON to CSV move data between spreadsheets and apps. All file tools read files locally and never upload them.

Quick tips

  • Prefer SHA-256 over MD5 when the publisher offers both.
  • Never open a file that turns out to be a program when you expected a document.

File Tools: common questions

What is a checksum?

A short fingerprint calculated from every byte of a file. If even one byte changes, the checksum changes completely, so matching checksums mean identical files.
