What is File Checksum Calculator?

File Checksum Calculator creates fingerprints (hashes) of a file so you can confirm a download is complete and unchanged. Paste the hash published by the software maker, and the tool tells you whether it matches. Hashing uses your browser’s built-in Web Crypto engine.

Software makers publish checksums so you can confirm a download arrived complete and untouched. A single changed byte produces a completely different hash. The tool calculates five common algorithms in one go and compares them with the value you paste, so you do not need to know which algorithm was used.

How to use File Checksum Calculator

  1. Choose any file.
  2. Optionally paste the expected hash from the download page.
  3. Press Calculate checksums.
  4. Read the match result and copy or download the list of hashes.

Key features

  • MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 at once
  • Automatic match against an expected hash
  • Files up to 500 MB
  • Download a checksum text file
  • Nothing is uploaded

Why use this file checksum calculator

  • Verify downloads and backups
  • Five hash types in one pass
  • Automatic match against the published value
  • The file never leaves your device

How it works

Hashes are computed over the exact bytes of the file with the browser's Web Crypto API.

File Checksum Calculator examples

1

Verify a download

Input: installer.exe + SHA-256 from the website

Result: ✓ MATCH when the file is intact.

2

Detect a change

Input: Two copies of a file where one byte differs

Result: Completely different SHA-256 values, so the copies are not identical.

Important notes before you rely on the result

  • Files are read on your device and never uploaded.
  • A matching signature or checksum confirms a file’s format or integrity, not that it is safe. Scan unknown programs with antivirus software.

Limits and supported formats

  • Files up to 500 MB (MD5 up to 200 MB). The whole file is read into memory, so very large files may be slow on phones.
  • MD5 and SHA-1 detect accidental corruption but are not secure against deliberate tampering; prefer SHA-256.

File Checksum Calculator: frequently asked questions

Which hash should I compare?

Use whichever the download page publishes. SHA-256 is the most common today. The tool checks your expected value against all five automatically.

What does NO MATCH mean?

The file differs from the one the publisher hashed: the download may be incomplete, corrupted or altered. Download it again from the official site.
