How this was calculated
What is Bill Split Calculator?
A bill split calculator ends the awkward maths at the end of a group dinner. Enter the base bill, an optional tip percentage, any flat shared charges and the number of people, and it tells you exactly how much each person owes. It is ideal for restaurant meals, cafe outings, shared cab rides, trip expenses and flatmates dividing a utility bill.
The tip is calculated on the base bill only, and flat fees such as a delivery charge or parking are added afterwards, then the total is divided equally. Everyone pays the same share, so it is best when the group agrees to split evenly rather than item by item. The share is shown in rupees and paise, rounded to 2 decimals, which you can round to the nearest rupee before settling up on UPI.
How to use Bill Split Calculator
- Enter the bill amount before tip in the Base bill field, for example 3200.
- Add a tip in Tip on base bill (%), such as 10, or enter 0 for no tip.
- Enter any extra shared charges, like delivery or parking, in Flat shared fees, or 0 if there are none.
- Type the headcount in Number of people as a whole number.
- Press Calculate to see the amount per person, then Copy it to share with the group.

Important notes before you rely on the result
- Loan EMIs use the standard reducing-balance formula. Your bank may add processing fees, insurance, GST on fees or broken-period interest, so the sanction letter is the final word.
- GST results split tax equally into CGST and SGST for intra-state supplies; inter-state supplies attract IGST at the full rate. The correct rate depends on the HSN/SAC code.
- Amounts are shown with two decimals; invoices and bank statements may round each line differently, which can create a difference of a few paise.

Bill Split Calculator: frequently asked questions
How do I split a bill with a tip?
Multiply the base bill by the tip percentage and add it to the bill, add any flat shared fees, then divide by the number of people. For a ₹3,200 bill with a 10% tip among four people, the total is ₹3,520 and each pays ₹880. The calculator follows exactly this order: tip on the base bill first, then fees, then the equal split.
Is the tip calculated before or after the extra fees?
Before. The tip percentage applies only to the base bill, and the flat shared fees are added after it, so you are not tipping on delivery or parking charges. If you want to tip on the full amount, include those charges in the Base bill field and leave Flat shared fees at 0.
Should I include GST and service charge in the base bill?
Enter whatever total your group wants to share and tip on. Most restaurant bills in India already show GST, so you can enter the final amount as the base bill. If a service charge is already added, you may prefer to set the tip to 0 or enter a smaller percentage, since tipping on top of a service charge is optional.
What happens when the bill does not divide evenly?
The calculator shows the share rounded to 2 decimal places, such as 333.33 per person for ₹1,000 among three people. It does not distribute leftover paise automatically. Round the share to a convenient amount and have one person cover the small difference, or round everyone up and leave the remainder as a tip.
Can I split a bill unequally, by what each person ordered?
No. This tool divides the total equally among everyone. For an itemised split, add up each person's items separately and share the tip and fees in proportion yourself. Equal splitting works best for shared meals, cab rides or household bills where everyone benefits roughly the same.
