What is the Marks Percentage Calculator?
A marks percentage calculator turns the marks you scored into a percentage of the total marks. Enter the marks obtained and the maximum marks, and it shows your score as a percentage straight away. Use it for a single unit test, one subject, or your complete board result by adding up all subjects first.
Students checking SSC, HSC, CBSE or university results, parents tracking progress and teachers preparing report cards will find it useful. It accepts decimal marks such as 37.5, so half-mark answers are no problem, and it stops you from entering marks higher than the maximum. The answer is shown to up to 4 decimal places; your board or school may round it differently or apply its own aggregation rules, such as best-of-five subjects.
How to use the Marks Percentage Calculator
- Enter your score in the Marks earned field, for example 432. Decimal marks are allowed.
- Enter the total possible marks in Maximum marks, such as 500.
- For several subjects, add all marks earned and all maximum marks first, then enter the two totals.
- Press Calculate to see your percentage.
- Copy the percentage, or press Reset to calculate another subject or exam.

Marks Percentage Calculator: frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the percentage of marks?
Divide the marks you obtained by the maximum marks and multiply by 100. For 432 out of 500, that is 432 ÷ 500 × 100 = 86.4%. This calculator does the division for you and shows the result to up to 4 decimal places, which is helpful for odd totals like 700 or 650 where mental maths is harder.
How do I calculate the percentage for all subjects together?
Add the marks you scored in every subject to get your total marks obtained, and add the maximum marks of every subject to get the grand total. Then enter both totals here. Doing it this way weights each subject by its maximum marks. Averaging individual subject percentages gives a different answer when subjects have different totals.
How is best-of-five percentage calculated?
Some boards, such as CBSE for certain purposes, allow a best-of-five calculation. Pick your five highest-scoring subjects as permitted by the rules, add their marks, and enter that total with a maximum of 500 if each subject is out of 100. Which subjects may be included differs by board and admission body, so check their rules first.
Can marks earned be more than the maximum marks?
No. The calculator accepts marks from 0 up to the maximum you enter and shows an error otherwise, which prevents typos such as 532 out of 500. If your exam includes grace or bonus marks that push the score above the stated total, check how your institution reports the percentage before relying on the result.
Will this match the percentage on my mark sheet?
It will if your board calculates the percentage from simple totals, but some institutions round to two decimals, exclude additional or internal subjects, or use grades instead of marks. This tool shows the mathematical percentage rounded to up to 4 decimal places, such as 87.4286%. For official purposes such as admissions, use the figure or method your board or university specifies.
