Going the other way, one pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg, so dividing pounds by about 2.2046 gives kilograms. For example, a 20 kg luggage limit is roughly 44 pounds.
Which ton does the converter use?
It uses the metric tonne, exactly 1,000 kilograms, which is the standard in India for things like crop yields, cement and freight. It is not the US short ton of 2,000 pounds or the UK long ton of 2,240 pounds, which are not offered in this tool.
Can I convert quintals or tolas?
No. The tool supports kilograms, grams, milligrams, metric tonnes, pounds and ounces only. A quintal is commonly 100 kg, so you can enter the kilogram equivalent. Traditional units such as tola, seer or maund have historical or regional variations, so confirm the value used where you buy or sell.
Are these troy ounces for gold?
No. The ounce here is the ordinary avoirdupois ounce of about 28.35 grams, used for food and general goods. Gold and silver are usually priced per troy ounce of about 31.10 grams, so do not use this result to convert bullion prices. In India, gold is mostly quoted per gram or per 10 grams.
Is weight the same as mass?
In everyday use people say weight when they mean mass, and this tool follows that. Kilograms and pounds measure how much matter something contains. Strictly, weight is the force of gravity on that mass, measured in newtons. The converter does not calculate force; it only converts between mass units.
